Another day, another year, yes, it is another Old Boys Veterans football match. On Sunday 27th April 2008 we played against a Faversham veterans team and managed a 2-2 draw.

I’ve finally added a search box to the sidebar. Please excuse the barren look of the results page – that will be sorted out in the coming weeks.

The current five a side season finished for the Old Bordenians Veterans on 1st May. We believe that we finished 6th out of 8 teams in division 2 which is not bad for a team consisting of players largely over the age of 50. More accurately, it’s not bad for a team consisting of large players over the age of 50. Having spent most of the season at the bottom of the table we had a good run towards the end of the season and picked up quite a few points and I think 6th place is about right.
The reason that we cannot be certain of our final position is that the League is still in turmoil following the mid season resignation of the one man who ran the whole thing. One of his roles was to update the website tables but those who stepped in to administer the League until the end of the season haven’t got around to doing that yet; nor have they provided a league table since February. So we’re all in the dark but all will become clear at the AGM in a couple of weeks time. We can then post the final Division 1 and 2 leagues onto this website.

This year we aimed for an environmentally friendly meal and a neutral carbon footprint. Judge for yourselves and see the full Environmental Report below (photos of the evening can be found at the end of the report):-
All food remaining was recycled – we hope the boys enjoyed their shepherd’s pie for Monday’s lunch.
Smoking was banned – even in the bike shelter.
All wine left was mixed together, rebottled and sold on Ebay.
John Lifton, who had travelled from New Zealand, intended cycling back.
Our numbers were boosted on the night to 96 by 5 unexpected guests, whose cheque and forms had not arrived, despite being hand delivered! Fortunately a quick word with the caterer, five seats and a table and normal service was resumed. If you thought you were lacking a roast potato or slice of beef, now you know why. It goes without saying that the caterer was instructed to ensure that Alan and I received full portions!

To all Members of the Old Bordenian Association -
Original details of the dinner follow – a separate report has now been published:
Please note the NEW time of 6:30pm for 7pm. (The Bar will be open from 5:30pm)
The President of the Association, Harold Vafeas , Headmaster of the School, will preside.
The toast to the School and the Association will be proposed by Marion Minhall , who joined Borden Grammar School in 1984 and retired in July 2007. For many years she ran the Senior Debating Society. During that time teams took part in regular school debates and successfully represented Borden in national debating and public speaking competitions. She also established the Borden Uniform Shop, which over the years has raised over £50,000 for school funds.
