Old Boys Veterans FC (1st XI) in Action Again!
July 15, 2008 in Football
Another day, another year, yes, it is another Old Boys Veterans football match. On Sunday 27th April 2008 we played against a Faversham veterans team and managed a 2-2 draw.
Team photo (left to right): Peter Thompson, Paul Bedelle, Paul Fletcher, Andy Bushell, Neil Redmond, Keith Shea, Rob Kemsley, Mark Spree, Alan Snelling, Mick Pack, Jamie Henley, and Cliff Cork. Alan Abery appeared at half-time.
According to various historical records, the average age of this team is 53.
Sublime skills, intricate passing, and dynamic teamwork – unfortunately none of these were on view during the match; however, the Old Boys did manage to string a few passes together and did most of the attacking. Surprisingly, it was 0-0 at half time, much to the relief of the ball which had done most of the work. The first half was marred by an accidental serious knee injury to one of the opposition and the rest of the match was played with much caution by all. The first shot of the second half from Rob Kemsley unfortunately hit the ambulance as it passed behind the goal. Luckily, Alan Abery was able to hit the back of the net twice in quick succession. Then, overcome by sentiment, the Old Boys defence gifted 2 silly goals to the opposition.
Late in the game and largely unnoticed by all, Alan Snelling made a fantastic save – see photo.
Another match is being planned for September, so watch this space!
