I attended from 1969 to 74 and have very happy memories. I remember a language assistant who refused to allow to speak any English in class. Maybe that was Sylvie? I never passed my O level French, but I’ve learnt enough to order food and drink. Having just spent a week working in Cannes it came in very useful.
I was one of the few kids from Quinton to attend and like most people, wish I’d work so much harder! Instead I spent most of the time playing sports and ruining the uniform!

Regarding Terry Cross
I didn’t know that he came down under. He wasn’t a bad bloke for a teacher… I remember Keith Tuohy used to give him a hard time. Terry was not, shall we say, well built, and I can remember Keith getting a ‘chit’ after saying that Terry could get into the cinema free because he was so skinny he didn’t need to open the doors. Does anyone know where in Oz that Terry went to??

Hi Peter. This is Barry McDonald who worked with you at Gillingham police station from 1975-1980. I went to New Zealand and have spent the last 30 years here. Dear Philip Drury, I was interested to read yr profile; I was at BGS 1950-57. We have several factors in common : 1. I was a Linguist (Chinese) for my National Service in the RAF, 1959-62, stationed in Hong Kong. 2. On a transport plane from Singapore, Oct. 1961, we refuelled – clandestinely? -at Tourane/ Danang. 3. I was a librarian from 1970-94, in Reading U., Iran engineering college, Nigerian education college, Saudi airport, Jeddah and Saudi Aramco, 1989-94: consultant, Juba, Sudan, 1983; travelled in Afghanistan from Iran, 1978. I might well go through Vietnam within 2 yrs to get to China, mongolia, Kazakhstan, Russia. I’m keen on going along the ‘silk road’, hopefully using my Farsi, Russian, Mandarin (!). With regard to Christopher Barr (his parents had the sweet shop at the bottom of Ufton Lane/Hollybank Hill)
Two years ago in my job as a Tour Guide/Driver in the Daintree National Park Rainforest some 160kms north of Cairns in North Queensland, Australia I picked up his elder brother who left UK in the 50′s to serve in the Rhodesian Police Force – when we worked out we were both from Sittingbourne – well.
It seems Chris is living a sort of luxury life in the Caribean buying and selling luxury yachts. He always was a bit of a wheeler/dealer.

I attended Borden from 1966-1973.
I have been living in Vietnam for the past 13 years where I teach English,examine for IELTS( English Language Testing System) and contribute articles to tourist magazines.
I have also taught in Saudi Arabia(5 and a half years) Spain(2 years)China (two and a half years) The Sudan(1 year),Mozambique( 5 years) and briefly in Afghanistan during 2004.
I live with wife Mai and daughters Hien and Angela just behind the old French opera house in downtown Saigon. Mai was running a restaurant when I met her and is still in the hospitality business as we sometimes rent the second floor of our large house to visitors.

I was a French language assistant in 1969 1970 and enjoyed being with you very much .I became an English teacher in France and have just retired .I am married and have one son.
I wonder what’s happened to John Penny 6th former at the time after studying in Oxford ,to Kitson Smith the teacher of English after going to Bristol to be a career’s adviser and to Terry Cook the geography teacher after he moved to Australia .
Can anyone give news ? BYE
